Tens therapy has few reported side effects. Tens machines may cause mild skin irritation under the pads producing redness and slight pain. Some patients may be allergic to the adhesive used to affix the pad to the skin or the materials in the pad itself the skin may appear red irritated or a rash may break out. Side effects of overusing a tens machine pain.

Electrical stimulation from a tens machine can cause pain and twitching in the underlying muscles if you adjust. If you often apply your tens machine and or don t properly use it either by not cleaning your skin not using gel etc then you can cause yourself a skin irritation in that area. Headaches and other irritations or painful sensations can also occur when the unit is applied near the head and neck area. In rare cases patients have reported burns at the sites where the electrodes are placed.

Tens units may help treat the following symptoms. Period pain labor pain postoperative pain joint pain neck and back pain. In some cases of overuse some mild side effects have occurred most commonly skin irritation. These include skin irritations at the site of the electrode application.
