Here are three steps to stripping and sealing terrazzo floors. Avoid using acidic or alkaline cleaners or products. Before cleaning a terrazzo floor make sure it is has been commercially sealed. A dry mop can also be useful if the floor is dusty.

Clear everything off of the terrazzo. Deep clean your terrazzo floors twice a year. Using plain water or a neutral neither acidic or alkaline cleaner wet mop the floor and let the cleaner sit on the floor for several minutes to dissolve dirt. Move any furniture that is on the terrazzo floor out of the way so you have no obstacles to clean around.

If there is other clutter like papers toys or containers move those out of the way too. Sweep the floor to remove loose dirt crumbs and other debris. Before applying a protective foundation prepare the floor by removing any old finish or sealant. Simply mix the stripper and apply it to the floor using a flat mop.

Deep clean your terrazzo tile floor with natural stone cleaner or commercial terrazzo cleaner to prevent etching from alkaline or acidic cleaners. All a terrazzo floor needs to keep it looking good is a quick going over with a damp mop using either clear water an all purpose cleaner in warm water or a mixture of 1 cup fabric softener and 1 2 gallon water. If your mopped floor dries with a film mop it again with water containing a cup of white vinegar and the floor will glisten. Vinegar can lead to etching in the terrazzo floor surface.
